Understanding the Components of a Driving Test Curriculum

Stage 1

  • Learning the Interior

  • Moving

  • Stopping

  • Pulling Over

  • Moving Up Gear

  • Moving Down Gear

  • Left Turns

  • Right Turns

Stage 2

  • Pedestrian Crossings

  • Traffic Lights

  • Roundabouts

  • Hill Starts

  • Adequate Clearance (Keeping good distance away from things on the road)

  • Meeting Traffic (Where you have to pull in behind parked cars to give way to oncoming traffic)

Stage 3

  • Using Sat Nav

  • Test Routes

  • Hotspots (These are the tricky parts that catch people out on their test)

  • Manoeuvres (Parallel Park, Reverse Bay Park, Right Reverse. Forward Bay Park)

  • Show me Questions (These will be asked to you while driving) See Examples

  • Tell me Questions (These will be asked to you at the start of the test) See Examples

  • The driving test will be booked at the end of this stage, so please ensure the theory test is passed by the end of stage 3

Stage 4

  • Emergency Stopping

  • Independent Driving (This is where you have to follow the road signs)

  • A Roads / Single & Dual Carriageways

  • Hotspots

  • Manoeuvres

  • Roundabouts (More advanced roundabouts)

  • Mock Test

*It will be arranged that the driving test will take place the day after the mock test.
